BOSTON, Mass. -- No. 23 Bates College filed away its first victory of the season Friday as the Bobcats held off No. 27 Connecticut College, 5-4, in a match hosted by Northeastern University.
The match of the afternoon came in the No. 3 slot as
Labeeb Ali defeated Conn. College's Adam Elkaliuoby, 3-2, for the senior's second-straight victory. Trailing two-games-to-one, Ali fired off a pair of 11-5 wins in games four and five, respectively, to earn the triumph.
Angad Sethi, playing at No. 4, also enjoyed a come-from-behind win for the garnet and white. The first-year, after dropping the first game of his match (5-11) vs. the Camels' Noah Fish, surged ahead with wins of 11-4, 11-3, and 11-6 for the win.
Ryan Kim (No. 5),
Max Good (No. 6), and
Maks Celm (No. 7) each locked down 3-0 victories in their respective outings.
The Bobcats (1-2) return to action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a neutral-site showdown vs. No. 30 Denison University. The contest will be hosted by Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.
