LEWISTON, Maine -- Men's squash wrapped up its season-opening weekend Saturday in the Bates College Squash Center as the #23 Bobcats took on #17 MIT in an eventual 7-2 win for the Engineers.
Bates' triumphs came courtesy of seniors
Alec Spiro and
Labeeb Ali at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
Spiro secured his first win of new campaign with a 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-8) shutout of MIT's Mero Elmarassy. Ali, also posting his initial triumph of 2024-25, outlasted John Gunton in five games (11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-5) in a match-up that lasted 69 minutes.
MIT evens its record at 4-4 overall with the victory. The garnet and white starts its year 0-2 overall.
Bates now prepares to take on #26 Connecticut College on Friday, Dec. 6 (3:00 p.m.) in a contest that will be hosted by Northeastern University (Boston. Mass.).
