BREWSTER, Mass. -- The Bates men's golf team recorded their best finish ever at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, tying for second place out of 22 schools over the course of two days this weekend at The Captains Course on Cape Cod.
First-year
Sean Resnick (Walpole, Mass.) led the way for the Bobcats, finishing in a tie for fifth place out of 113 golfers at one over par. He was at even par with a 72 on Saturday, tallying two birdies and two bogeys. Then on Sunday, Resnick had a bit of a wild ride, notching four birdies but also tallying three bogeys and a double bogey to finish one over for the tournament.
Senior captain
Will Phillips (Portland, Ore.) bounced back from a seven-over-par round on Saturday, to shoot one over par on Sunday, good for 19th place overall. Fellow senior captain
Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) also landed in the top 30, finishing with a 77 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday, tying for 27th overall.
As a team, the Bobcats finished 30 over par, tying Husson for second place. Bates was the only NESCAC school in the field, and Endicott ran away with the team title, shooting seven under par.
The NEIGA Championship is the final tournament of the fall for the Bobcats. Bates will have a spring season as well, which features the NESCAC Championship, set for April 25-27 at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
