Bobcats Unload for 6-1 Non-Conference Home Win vs. UMaine Farmington

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates men's soccer unloaded for a season-high six goals Tuesday evening at the new Russell Street Field, providing the Bobcats with a 6-1 non-conference win over the visiting Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington.

The garnet and white netted three of its six tallies in the first half, two of which came via penalty kicks. Tife Agunloye found the back of the net for a NESCAC-leading sixth time at the 19:39 mark of the first as the senior forward took advantage of a UMF infraction and deposited a PK tally.

Agunloye provided the helper on the Bobcats' next scoring effort, a goal by junior Cesar Hoover at 32:54, giving the Monroe, Conn. resident a conference-best 16 total points (six goals, four assists). Just 24 seconds later, Hoover successfully connected on his own penalty kick attempt to put Bates ahead, 3-0.

Andrew Goddard (49:11), Mauro Kalaora (70:19), and Isaiah Brown (81:39) completed the Bobcats' barrage with second-half scores as the home team outshot the Beavers, 23-6 (7-2 on target). For Brown and Goddard, their goals represented the first of their collegiate careers.

Trevor Hammond (1-0) earned the start in frame for the home team as the sophomore keeper collected a lone save in his 45:00 of action. First-year Luca Balzano, making his debut for Bates, played the entire second half.

The Bobcats (6-2-1) return to NESCAC play this Saturday with a trek to Williamstown, Mass. where they will take on Williams College. Start time is set for noon.
