WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- A pair of second-half scores, netted just 49 seconds apart, proved to be more than enough as Williams College doubled up visiting Bates, 2-0, in Saturday's NESCAC men's soccer tilt.
Lorcan Mitchell (West Springfield, Mass.), tied for the team lead in goals, snapped a scoreless tie when the first-year connected for his fourth of the season in the 77th minute (76:55). In a blink, the Ephs expanded its lead to 2-0 as Kellen Grace (So.-Weston, Conn.) collected what would be the game-winner at the 77:44 mark.
Williams dominated the shot column, more than tripling (21-6) the output of the Bobcats, The victors also recorded a healthy 11-3 margin on frame.
Ben Diffley (Sr.-Summerville, S.C.) sealed the win in the Ephs' net with four saves in 90:00 of action.
George Nassar did all he could to keep Bates in the match as the first-year keeper grabbed nine saves in the complete-game effort.
The garnet and white (6-3-1, 2-2-1 NESCAC) gets right back at it Sunday afternoon when Bates visits Hamilton at 1:30 p.m.
