AUBURN, Maine -- Senior captain
Ned Farrington led a trio of Bobcats who placed in the top 10 Sunday at the Bates Invitational, as Bates took second place out of six schools in the 8-kilometer race held at Roy's Disc Golf.
Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) raced to the finish in 26:02.6, good for runner-up honors out of 97 runners. Fellow senior captain
Victor Kering (Eldoret, Kenya) took fifth in 26:18.8 and senior
Sam Kartsonis (Narberth, Pa.) impressed as well, finishing in eighth place with a time of 26:32.9.
The No. 21 nationally ranked Bobcats scored 50 points as a team, just two points behind No. 26 Tufts. With a lower score being better, the Jumbos (48 points) and Bobcats (50 points) finished well-ahead of the next-best finishers WPI and Bowdoin, both of which tallied 83 points.
Junior captain
Ben Huston (Vergennes, Vt.) and first-year
Callahan Porter (Chester, N.J.) practically tied for 17th place, with Huston crossing the finish line in 27:21.1 and Porter checking in at 27:21.4.
All seven scorers for the Bobcats finished in the top 25 as junior
Andrew Mottur (Rumford, R.I.) took 24th in 27:36.2 and senior
Colin Thoman (Westport, N.Y.) landed in 25th in 27:38.0.
Bates travels to Saxl Park in Bangor, Maine for the Maine State Meet, set for Saturday, September 30 at 11am. The Bobcats will be looking to capture their fourth straight state title.
