NEW ORLEANS -- The Bates men's and women's track & field teams were recognized for its academic achievements, and the accomplishments of eight individual Bobcats were celebrated, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Academic Awards were announced Thursday.
With men's track & field sporting a grade-point average of 3.58, and the women's program collecting a hefty mark of 3.69, both programs have earned the status of USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. To qualify for this honor, programs must earn a cumulative team GPA (not 2022-23 academic year, not semester) of at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter.
Bates men's track & field student-athletes earning NCAA Division III All-Academic honors this year are:
Eli Boesch Dining '23 (Environmental Studies-3.98 GPA),
Liam Byrne '23 (Physics-3.36),
Jacob Goff '24 (Economics-3.42), and
Derek Shen '23 (Economics-3.35).
On the women's front, four Bobcats earned NCAA III All-Academic accolades, including:
Chrissy Aman '24 (Economics-3.94),
Abbey Otterbein '23 (Neuroscience-3.89),
Jillian Richardson '23 (Biology-3.90), and
Moriah Scharn '26 (Undeclared-3.52).
Student-athletes must have cumulative grade point average of 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) through the most recently completed grading period AND meet one of the following athletic criteria:
- Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who participated at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible.
- Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who participated in the relay at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
