Bates Well-Represented on College Sports Communicators Men's XC/Track & Field Academic All-District® Team

LEWISTON, Maine -- Five Bobcats have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Men's XC/Track & Field Academic All-District® Team, announced Wednesday. Seniors Eli Boesch Dining and Owen Glover, juniors Sam Kartsonis and Victor Kering, and sophomore Andrew Mottur have each earned recognition on this elite list.

Boesch Dining, a senior environmental studies major, owns a stellar cumulative grade-point average of 3.98. The native of Concord, N.H. is an eight-time selection to the NESCAC All-Academic team, having competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field for the Bobcats. Eli was honored on May 23 during the Bates Athletics Senior Student-Athlete Celebration as one of 89 Senior Scholar selections. He was also presented the Milton L. Lindholm Scholar-Athlete Award, which goes to one varsity letter-winning student-athlete from a men's team and a women's team with the highest cumulative GPA.

Eli enjoyed an excellent cross country campaign as the USTFCCCA All-Academic, All-Region, and All-NESCAC selection captained his squad to a finish of 22nd-place at the Division III XC National Championships this past November in East Lansing, Mich. In track and field competition, Boesch Dining earned All-Region accolades in the 5,000 meters, setting a personal-record time of 14:34.73 at the Friar Invitational on April 14. The results marks the fifth fastest time in Bates men's outdoor track and field history.

On May 5, Eli won the 10,000 meters at the New England Outdoor Division III Championships in his first-ever running of the event for the garnet and white. Boesch Dining raced to the finish in 30:32.02, beating the next closest competitor by more than a minute. His time is the third fastest mark in the event in Bates men's track and field history.

Glover compiled a 3.77 GPA as a senior biology major for the Bobcats. A native of Andover, Mass., Owen has earned eight NESCAC All-Academic selections over his time as a member of the Bates cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field programs. He was also named a Bates Senior Scholar earlier this month for four years as a varsity student-athlete while maintaining a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Kartsonis, a philosophy and neuroscience major from Narberth, Pa., owns a grade-point average of 3.85. A two-time member of the NESCAC Fall All-Academic roster, and a four-time selection overall with indoor and outdoor track & field, Sam achieved USTFCCCA All-Academic status this past autumn as a member of the men's XC team.

The junior harrier collected All-Region status after recording a time of 26:20.9 (26th overall) at the 2022 NCAA Division III East Regional XC Championships, Nov. 12 at Bowdoin College.

Kering, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, achieved a GPA of 3.67 as a chemistry major. A USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, Victor owns six NESCAC All-Academic (cross country, indoor T&F, outdoor T&F) selections. Like Boesch Dining and Kartsonis, Kering landed on the USTFCCCA All-Region team after placing 15th-overall (25:48.1) at the NCAA Division III East Regional XC Championships.

Mottur, who owns a solid 3.96 grade-point average as a sophomore, earned his first NESCAC All-Academic selections (XC, indoor and outdoor track & field) this year. The native of Rumford, R.I. also was honored on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team and placed 36th at the NCAA Division III East Regional XC Championships.

Andrew was named to the 2023 NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Team, which recognizes individuals who display sportsmanship, not only as a participant in their sport but also as a spectator and in their everyday lives.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's XC/Track & Field Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
