HARTFORD, Conn. -- Bates College opened action in the Summers Cup of the CSA Men's Squash Team Championships Friday as the #19 Bobcats were upended by #22 Hobart College, 6-3, in a match hosted by Trinity College.
The loss pushes the garnet and white into the consolation round as Bates will next take on #23 Colby College Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Middletown, Conn. (hosted by Wesleyan Univ.)Â The Mules lost their opening match to #18 Amherst College which, with the win, now moves on to compete vs. Hobart in the Summers Cup semifinal round, also on Saturday.
The Statesmen (11-9) proved victorious in each of the first four slots of its lineup en route to the victory. Nos. 6 and 8 also secured wins for Hobart, both going the distance with scores of 3-2.
Chris Kenny and
Jairaj Singh secured 3-1 triumphs for the Bobcats at No. 5 and 7, respectively.
Garrett Wenberg authored a solid 3-0 win for Bates at No. 9.
Friday's match marked the second of the season between the two programs with Bates besting the Statesmen by an identical 6-3 showing back Jan. 10 in Geneva, N.Y.
