WILMINGTON, N.Y. -- Junior captain
Bo Underhill finished tied for 17th out of 75 competitors and the Bates men's alpine skiing team placed three in the top-30 Friday in the giant slalom at the St. Lawrence Carnival.
Underhill (Newbury, N.H.) recorded a two-run combined time of 2:09.67, good for 25 carnival points and 14 NCAA points. Sophomores
Nic Hotermans (Weston, Mass.) and
Kyle Kagan (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) both placed in the top-30 as well for Bates, with Hotermans taking 29th in 2:11.64 and Kagan 30th in 2:11.76. Hotermans picked up 15 carnival points and two NCAA points while Kagan notched 14 carnival points and one NCAA point.
On the women's side, senior captain
Grace Schierwagen (North Hampton, Pa.) led the way, taking 35th out of 73 competitors in the GS with a two-run combined time of 2:20.31, earning 12 carnival points. First-year
Molly Quinlan (Park City, Utah) also scored for Bates, finishing in 41st place with a two-run combined time of 2:23.09, picking up seven carnival points.
The Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams combined for 130 points on Friday, 12th out of 14 schools, but just six points out of 10th place.
The Bobcats return to the slopes Saturday at the St. Lawrence Carnival for the slalom races.
