AUBURN, Maine -- Senior
Alex Voight-Shelley shot a 79 on Saturday to lead the Bates women's golf team in round one of the NESCAC Fall Qualifier, hosted by the Bobcats at Martindale Country Club.
Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) is currently tied for 13th out of 40 competitors at the eight-team event. She is eight strokes back of the first-round leader Euna Lee of Williams College.
As a team, the Bobcats shot a 326 on Saturday, seventh-best out of eight schools but only 10 strokes back of fourth-place Bowdoin. The top four teams after the end of Sunday's second round will qualify for the NESCAC Championships in the spring. The top four individuals from teams that do not make the spring championship will qualify as individuals. If things hold, Voight-Shelley would be one of those top four, but a lot of golf remains to be played.
First-year
Victoria Adams (Winchester, Mass.) finished one stroke back of Voight-Shelley with an 80 on Saturday, tied for 17th place.
The Games Committee will be convening at 7:30am on Sunday to review course conditions with the course pro and superintendent, as rain fell throughout the day Saturday. As of now, the second round is set to begin at 10:27am on Sunday.
