BREWSTER, Mass. -- Bates women's golf senior
Alex Voight-Shelley shot an even par 72 on Sunday to finish the fall season with a flourish, winning individual medalist honors at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, held at The Captains Course on Cape Cod.
After shooting a 75 on Saturday, Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) entered Sunday's final round five strokes back of leader Madeline Adam of the University of Hartford. Adam shot a 78 on Sunday, so Voight-Shelley's 72 gave her a one-stroke victory in a field of 43 golfers. She tallied five birdies and 24 pars over the course of two days.
As a team, Bates shot 324 on Sunday, a seven-stroke improvement from round one, giving them a two-day score of 655 and securing a third-place finish out of eight teams.
The Bobcats put two golfers in the top 10. Junior
Maddy Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) shot a 79 on Sunday to give her a two-day score of 155 and a sixth-place finish. Meanwhile, sophomore
Kendall Reed (Newtown, Conn.) had the biggest improvement from day one to day two, shooting a 92 on Saturday and an 84 on Sunday, good for a tie for 22nd place overall.
The NEIGA Championship concludes the fall season for the Bates women's golf team. The Bobcats will play at select tournaments in the spring.
