BREWSTER, Mass. -- The Bates men's golf team turned in their best performance ever at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, finishing in fourth place out of 20 schools over the course of two days this weekend at The Captains Course on Cape Cod.
As a team, the Bobcats were remarkably consistent, combining to shoot back-to-back rounds of 306. Bates finished nine strokes back of tournament winner Husson and just four strokes back of second-place Endicott.
First-year
Arthur Jenkins (Shreveport, La.) shot a 78 on Sunday, finishing with a two-day score of 152. His performance was good for a tie for eighth place out of 102 golfers in the field. Meanwhile, sophomore
Henry Ehrlich (Portland, Ore.) and senior
Paul Detre (Morristown, N.J.) tied for the low round on the team on Sunday, with both shooting a 75. Ehrlich finished in a tie for 14th place overall, just one stroke back of Jenkins. Detre had the biggest improvement from round one to round two, lowering his score by five strokes. He and junior
Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) finished in a tie for 23rd place with a two-day score of 155.
The NEIGA Championship marks the final fall tournament for the men's golf team. The Bobcats will return in the spring, competing in select tournaments, including the NESCAC Championship, being held April 27-28 at Brunswick Golf Club.
