BREWSTER, Mass. -- Led by first-year
Arthur Jenkins, the Bates men's golf team shined Saturday in round one of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, being held Saturday and Sunday at The Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod.
The Bobcats shot 306 as a team, good for second place out of 20 schools.
Jenkins (Shreveport, La.) paced Bates with a two-over par 74 and is tied for sixth place out of 102 competitors, just three strokes off the lead.
Three other Bobcats also sit in the top 25 after the first round of action.
Coming off his breakthrough performance at the Skidmore Invitational, junior
Freddie Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) shot a 77 on Saturday, tied for 16th place. Senior
John Kawakami (Northport, N.Y.) matched Curtis with a 77 of his own. Sophomore
Henry Ehrlich (Portland, Ore.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats with a 78, tied for 25th place.
The Bobcats are currently eight strokes back of Husson, as the Eagles lead the field through one round.
Bates tees off Sunday at 10am for the second and final round of the NEIGA Championship.
