Maddy Kwei placed fifth out of 58 competitors and the Bates women's golf team finished fourth out of 10 schools at the Wesleyan Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Lyman Orchards Golf Club.
Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) led the Bobcats both days, shooting an 80 (eight over par) on Saturday and a 38 (two over par) on Sunday. Kwei's score on Sunday was tied for the second lowest round in the field. Sunday's action was abbreviated to nine holes due to inclement weather.
Her final tally of 118 over the course of two days was just three strokes back of medalist honors and one stroke back of a tie for second.
The Bobcats shot 495 as a team, five strokes back of a tie for second place. Middlebury won the tournament with a score of 471. The Bobcats had the second-lowest round of the day on Sunday, shooting 159.
Senior
Alex Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) also placed in the top 10 for the Bobcats, finishing in eighth place with a two-day score of 121.
The Bobcats are back in action this Saturday and Sunday when they host the NESCAC Fall Qualifier at Martindale Country Club.
