LEWISTON, Maine -- #19 Bates College snapped a mini two-match slide as the Bobcats bested rival Colby College at home Wednesday defeating the #20 Mules, 5-4, in men's squash action.
Signature victories came from reigning NESCAC Performer of the Week,
Alec Spiro (Portland, Ore.), and
Max Good (Shaker Heights, Ohio), as the duo recorded clutch 3-2 triumphs in comeback fashion for the garnet and white.
Spiro, playing at No. 1 for the Bobcats, dropped his first two games (7-11, 6-11) before stunning Colby's Youssif Mostafa with wins of 11-7, 11-3, and 11-4 to take the contest. Good, in the No. 9 slot, found himself in a 2-1 hole to Rintaro Yamamoto. The sophomore dug deep and promptly dismissed his opponent with scores of 11-5 and 11-6 over the final two games.
No. 3
Harris Ramlee (Southville City, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) also went the distance for Bates, defeating Adrian Castillo (11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 7-11, 12-10) in his own five-game winning performance.
Sultan Hashmi (Sr.-Tiburon, Calif.) came from behind to send off Kit Illick (9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4) in four games.
Labeeb Ali (So.-Plano, Texas) enjoyed Bates' only 3-0 effort on the night, pushing past Syed Haseeb Kashef with scores of 12-10, 11-6, and 11-3.
The Bobcats (10-4) close out the 2022-23 regular season this Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. home contest vs. #15 Tufts. Bates will honor its senior class during a special ceremony prior to competition.
