CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Bates men's outdoor track and field team has been hampered by illness and injuries over the last few weeks, but the Bobcats still competed hard and had some solid results Saturday at the NESCAC Championships.
Senior
John Everett (Winchester, Mass.) led the way for the Bobcats, recording three top-eight performances. Everett took fifth place in the shot put with a top effort of 44-3.25 (13.49m) and finished sixth in the hammer with a heave of 147-9 (45.03m). He also set a personal record in the discus at 124-2 (37.86m), good for seventh place.
Other points-scoring performances for top-eight event finishes by the Bobcats included:
- Senior captain Liam Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) took fourth in the javelin throw with a personal record toss of 154-0 (46.95m).
- Senior captain Charlie Hansen (Washington, D.C.) finished sixth in the pole vault with a top clearance of 14-7.25 (4.45m).
- The 4x400 relay team of senior Garrett Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.), junior Robert Griffin (Norwell, Mass.), first-year Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.), and Liam Evans finished in sixth place with a time of 3:23.58.
- The 4x800 relay team of senior Jackson Elkins (South Deerfield, Mass.), junior Owen Glover (Andover, Mass.), senior John Mieszczanski (Chelmsford, Mass.), and first-year Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also took sixth place for Bates, finishing in 7:59.59.
- The 4x100 relay team of Griffin, first-year Kevin O'Connor (Milford, Mass.), Williams, and Garrett Evans took seventh in 43.49 seconds.
- Sophomore Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) finished seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:53.24.
The Bobcats scored 27 points as a team, 10th most in the conference and ahead of host Hamilton.
Bates is back in action this Friday and Saturday at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Williams College.
