LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior captain Anna Rozin won both her matches Tuesday against No. 15 nationally ranked Bowdoin, but the short-handed Bates women's tennis team fell 6-3 to the Polar Bears at Merrill Gymnasium. 

Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) teamed with sophomore Salma Alsikafi (Lake Bluff, Ill.) to defeat Bowdoin's Elizabeth Yu and Hannah Buckhout by a count of 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Rozin followed that up with a dominating performance at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Yu. 

The Bobcats were without key players in junior Joanna Atwater (Short Hills, N.J.) and sophomore Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.), forcing most of the lineup to move up two spots in singles play. Bowdoin (7-7, 5-3 NESCAC) took advantage, winning four singles matches to go along with a pair of doubles matches. First-year Elizabeth Frekko (Lake Forest, Ill.) did win by forfeit at No. 6 singles for Bates.

The Bobcats (5-8, 2-5 NESCAC) are back in action this Thursday when they travel to Tufts for a match that gets underway at 3pm.
