STANDISH, Maine -- The Bates women's outdoor track and field team blitzed the competition, taking first place by more than 100 points Friday and Saturday at the Monks Invitational.
Bates scored 299 points, first place out of 14 schools and well-ahead of runner-up Husson (91.5 points).
Junior
Abbey Otterbein (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore
Livia Kozick (Portsmouth, N.H.) continued their remarkable seasons with a 1-2 finish in the heptathlon over the course of two days. Otterbein surged into fourth place on the Bates all-time performance list in the event with her winning total of 3,662 points. Meanwhile, Kozick checks in at seventh all-time with 3,537 points.
Three Bobcats qualified for New Englands in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, with first-year
Olivia Reynolds (Cumberland, Maine) moving into seventh on the Bates top-10 all-time performance list with her time of 11:28.80. Junior
Rowan Hassman (Coppell, Texas) placed second in 12:04.99 and junior
Frieda Kickliter (Mobile, Ala.) took third in 12:14.28.
Out of 33 runners, the Bobcats placed competitors in each of the top eight spots in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore
Chrissy Aman (Hanover, N.H.) led the way, winning the race in a personal record time of 4:56.43.
Junior
Jordan Wilson (Medfield, Mass.) took home first place and qualified for New Englands in the 5000 meters with her time of 18:27.13. It was a dominating performance, as Wilson finished nearly two minutes ahead of the runner-up in the race.
Three Bobcats qualified for New Englands in the 10,000 meters, with first-year
Phoebe Pohl (Wayland, Mass.) winning the race in 39:34.01. Sophomore
Isabel May (Erving, Mass.) took second in 39:42.63 and first-year
Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) placed third in 40:22.82.
Senior captain
Amanda Kaufman (Somers, Conn.) qualified for New Englands in the 100-meter hurdles, winning the event in 15.78 seconds. Fellow senior captain
Rebecca Willis (West Newbury, Mass.) won the 400 hurdles in 1:10.29.
The relay teams impressed as well, with sophomore
Maddie Lee (Providence, R.I.), junior
Alice Cockerham (Kingfield, Maine), junior
Lily D'Addario (Locust Valley, N.Y.), and junior
Megan Lacey (Braxton, Miss.) teaming up to win the 4x100 in 51.64 seconds. Senior
Mary Corcoran (Brookline, Mass.) won the 800 meters in 2:23.24 and helped Kaufman, Aman, and Lee win the 4x400 in 4:16.48.
Senior
Lily Simmons (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) won the pole vault with a top clearance of 9-8 (2.95m) and sophomore
Enisa Shoshi (Coraopolis, Pa.) won the triple jump with her leap of 34-9 (10.59m).
In the throws, first-year
Hope Seketa (Williamsville, N.Y.) and sophomore
Alma Mackic (Lake Forest, Ill.) impressed in the hammer, waiting for their turn in the pouring rain and taking second and third respectively. Seketa's top throw traveled 113-1 (34.47m) and Mackic's top effort traveled 108-10 (33.17m).
The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday at 11am when they travel to Bowdoin for the Pine Tree Relays.
