Box Score SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. -- The Bates women's tennis team won a second straight match on Saturday, sweeping Mount Holyoke 9-0.
Bates (2-2) won all three doubles matches against the Lyons (0-3) by the same 8-2 score.Â
Four of the six Bobcats competing in doubles also played singles matches, with senior captain
Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) winning at both No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. She teamed with sophomore
Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) to defeat Mount Holyoke's Annika Chai and Annissa Aamoum in doubles. Then she swept Chai 6-1, 6-1 in singles.
Junior
Joanna Atwater (Short Hills, N.J.) got a win at No. 2 doubles with sophomore
Salma Alsikafi (Lake Bluff, Ill.) over MHC's Shweta Kiran Cavale and Hannah Middleton. Atwater followed that up with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win at number two singles over Kiran Cavale.
Friedman also earned a win in singles, sweeping Aamoum 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot in the lineup.Â
First-year
Drew Williams (Guilford, Conn.) partnered with fellow first-year
Olivia Gidlow (Cleveland, Ohio) to win at No. 3 doubles over Nikki Cheng and Claudia Gonzalez-Vazquez. Then Williams won with ease at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Cheng.
First-year
Ava Lyon (Naples, Fla.) defeated Middleton 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles and first year
Elizabeth Frekko (Lake Forest, Ill.) rounded out the sweep for Bates with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Gonzalez-Vazquez.
The Bobcats open NESCAC play next Saturday at Williams, with the match getting underway at 10am.
