NORTHAMPTON, MASS. -- The Bates women's tennis team earned its first win of the young spring season, defeating Smith College 9-0 Friday evening.
In doubles, first-year
Drew Williams (Guilford, Conn.) and first-year
Olivia Gidlow (Cleveland, Ohio) made quick work of Smith's Olivia Monos and Elsa Hillis at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, winning 8-1. Junior
Joanna Atwater (Short Hills, N.J.) and sophomore
Salma Alsikafi (Lake Bluff, Ill.) teamed up to win 8-5 over Ashley Felix and Alexa Monos at No. 2 doubles.
And at No. 1 doubles, senior captain
Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore
Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) went the extra mile to earn a hard-fought 8-7 (7-4) win over Smith's Lili Goshgarian and Clara Goshgarian.
Rozin, Atwater and Friedman all earned straight set wins at No. 1 through 3 singles respectively. First-year
Ava Lyon (Naples, Fla.) rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over Alexa Monos.
Williams and first-year
Elizabeth Frekko (Lake Forest, Ill.) rounded out the sweep for Bates (1-2), with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday at 11am when they visit Mount Holyoke.
