Jones and Anstine lead alpine skiing teams in giant slalom at NCAA East Regionals

FRANCONIA, N.H. -- Junior Crawford Jones and first-year Sequoia Anstine placed 20th in their respective giant slalom races to pace the Bates alpine skiing teams Saturday at the UNH Carnival, which doubles as the NCAA East Regional Championships. 

Jones (Killington, Vt.) recorded a two-run combined time of 2:14.45 as the only scorer for the Bates men on the day. His 20th place showing out of 60 competitors earned the Bobcats 23 carnival points while Jones picked up 11 NCAA points for his performance. 

Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) led the women with her two-run combined time of 2:18.88, good for 23 carnival points and 11 NCAA points. Sophomore Avery Leonard (Madison, Wis.) took 37th out of 61 women's skiers with her two run combined time of 2:23.14, earning 10 carnival points. Meanwhile, senior Tess Coutu (Foster, R.I.) rounded out the scoring for Bates with a 41st place finish thanks to a two-run combined time of 2:25.05, good for eight carnival points.

The UNH Carnival wraps up the 2022 carnival circuit. The NCAA skiing championships are set for March 9-12 in Park City, Utah.
