Abbey Otterbein and sophomore
Livia Kozick both recorded personal best scores in the pentathlon, highlighting day one of the Women's New England Division III Championships Friday for the Bates women's indoor track and field team.
Otterbein (Beverly, Mass.) won the shot put in the pentathlon with a personal best throw of 35-10.75 and she prevailed in the 800 meters in a PR of 2:29.36. Overall, she took sixth place out of 12 competitors with a career-high 2,712 points. Her sixth-place finish earned the Bobcats three points in the team scoring.
Kozick (Portsmouth, N.H.) tallied a career-high 2,601 points and finished ninth overall. Her best showing came in the high jump, where Kozick placed fourth with a top leap of 4-11.50.
In other action on day one, the Bates women's 4x200 relay team of junior
Lily D'Addario (Locust Valley, N.Y.), junior
Alice Cockerham (Kingfield, Maine), senior captain
Rebecca Willis (West Newbury, Mass.), and senior captain
Amanda Kaufman (Somers, Conn.) just missed scoring points for the team with a ninth-place showing out of 16 entries. The Bobcats raced to the finish in 1:50.17, more than six seconds under their seed time.
The Bobcats will look to move up the standings on Saturday when the majority of the events take place. Kaufman's 60-meter hurdles trials at 11am is the first event of the day for the Bobcats and the 4x800 relay at 2:30pm will wrap up the meet for Bates, with plenty of action in-between.
