COCOA, Fla. -- The Bates women's tennis team battled the heat and Eastern Florida State on Wednesday, eventually falling 7-2 to the Titans.
In doubles play, the first-year team of
Drew Williams (Guilford, Conn.) and
Olivia Gidlow (Cleveland, Ohio) earned a victory at the No. 3 position, defeating Eastern Florida State's Dana Bryan and Paige Noble Lucas by a count of 8-5.
The Bobcats also got a really strong performance at No. 1 doubles, with senior captain
Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore
Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) battling Kayla Greco and Kanna Kobayakawa to the wire before falling 8-7 (9-7).
Down 2-1 headed to singles play, Bates got a victory at No. 5 singles from junior
Alexandra D'Aquino (Weston, Conn.), who defeated Bryan in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. The Bobcats got a solid performance at No. 6 singles from junior
Laura Littlefield (Ellicott City, Md.), who was called into action at the last minute due to an injury. She hung with Noble Lucas before falling 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Wednesday's match was an exhibition and does not count toward the Bobcats' win-loss record. Bates is back in action Saturday when they visit NCAA Division II opponent Florida Southern at 12pm.
