Sequoia Anstine placed 15th out of 72 women in the giant slalom to pace the Bates alpine skiing teams Saturday at the Middlebury Carnival.
Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) recorded a two-run combined time of 2:08.67, earning the Bobcats 27 carnival points and picking up 16 NCAA points. Senior
Tess Coutu (Foster, R.I.) joined Anstine in the top 30 with her two-run combined time of 2:10.08, good for 25th place. Coutu earned 19 carnival points and six NCAA points. Junior
Grace Schierwagen (North Hampton, Pa.) rounded out the scoring in 42nd place with a two-run combined time of 2:12.97. She earned eight carnival points.
On the men's side, junior
Crawford Jones (Killington, Vt.) led the way, taking 37th place out of 74 skiers with his two run-combined time of 2:06.82. Jones earned 14 carnival points for Bates. First-year
Kyle Kagan (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) also picked up carnival points with a 41st place finish, recording a two-run combined time of 2:07.55. Kagan earned 10 carnival points for his performance.Â
The Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams combined for 370 points, good for eighth out of 14 schools and only eight points out of seventh place.Â
Bates alpine skiing returns to the Middlebury Snow Bowl Sunday for another giant slalom race, this one an individual NCAA qualifier that serves as a make-up race for the canceled UVM carnival.
