BOSTON -- The Bates men's track and field team sent select athletes to the BU Valentine Invitational on Saturday and turned in some impressive results.

• First-year Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.) moved into a tie for second with Joel Colony '06 on the Bates all-time performance list in the 200 meter dash, racing to the finish in 22.44 seconds. First-year Kevin O'Connor (Milford, Mass.) recorded a career-best time in the 200 at 23.66 seconds.


• Senior captain Liam Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) ran the 400 meters in a personal best time of 51.04 seconds. Senior Garrett Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) also achieved a personal record in the 400, crossing the line in 51.76, and winning his section.


• First-year Cam Stathos (Wellesley, Mass.) won his section of the 800 meters in a personal best 1:57.03. Sophomore Daniel Maas (Manhasset, N.Y.) also won his section, in a personal best 1:59.22.


• Sophomore Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) ran the fastest mile of his collegiate career, crossing the finish line in 4:13.19, edging teammate and senior John Mieszczanski (Chelmsford, Mass.), who ran a personal-best mile of 4:13.25.


• Junior Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) set a new personal record in the weight throw with a top heave of 53' 7.75". 


• In a fun twist, first-year Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) edged one of his coaches at Bates, Jacob Ellis, in the 1,000 meters. Rooney finished in 2:31.90 and Ellis crossed the line in 2:32.47. 

The Bobcats return to action next Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.
