Lewiston, Maine -- The No. 22 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team defeated No. 15 Franklin & Marshall College Sunday afternoon by a final score of 7-2, providing the Bobcats a clean sweep of its weekend home stand.
Combined with Friday's defeat of No. 25 Navy and Saturday's win over No. 32 Connecticut College, Bates now sits at 4-1 after its three-match sweep. The Diplomats drop to 4-3 after the road loss.
Two of Bates' seven wins were of the shutout variety, starting with
Jairaj Singh (Jaipur, Rajasthan, India) in the No. 7 position. The senior blanked Noah Katzer with scores of 11-5, 12-10, 11-6. Fellow senior,
Sultan Hashmi (Sr.-Tiburon, Calif.), followed in the No. 9 slot with a 3-0 win over Evann Tan (14-12, 14-12, 11-6).
At No.1,
Alec Spiro (So.-Portland, Ore.) sent off Petr Nohel (11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 11-5) in four games.
Chris Kenny (Fy.-Greenwich, Conn.) and
Labeeb Ali (So.-Plano, Texas) also authored 3-1 victories for the Bobcats, doing so in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
Harris Ramlee (Southville City, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) needed five sets to land a win in the No. 2 position for the garnet and white as the sophomore dismissed Jordan Sprecher (11-7, 10-12, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9).
Garrett Wenberg (Rye, N.Y.) also needed five frames to land a win as the junior escaped Samuel Freed (5-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9) in the No. 8 slot.
The Bobcats look to make it four-straight when they next compete this Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. visit to No. 21 Bowdoin.
