Lewiston, Maine -- No. 22 Bates College recorded its second victory in as many days as the Bobcats controlled No. 32 Connecticut College, 8-1, Saturday afternoon at home in men's squash competition.
The win puts the Bobcats at 3-1 after for outings to start the season. The visiting Camels slip to 1-4 after Saturday's setback.
Six of Bates' eight wins were of the shutout variety, starting with
Alec Spiro (Portland, Ore.) in the No. 1 position. The sophomore blanked Samuel Lovejoy with scores of 11-6, 11-6, 11-5. Fellow sophomore,
Labeeb Ali (Plano, Texas) followed in the No. 4 slot with a 3-0 win over Ryan Mach (11-5, 11-8 11-6).
At No, 6,
Garrett Wenberg (Jr.-Rye, N.Y.) cruised past Alexander Lorenzo-Cruz, defeating his foe in straight sets of 11-5, 11-1, 11-4.
Sultan Hashmi (Sr.-Tiburon, Calif.) did the same to his opponent at No. 7, pushing past Peter Russell at 11-6, 11-4, 11-4.
Max Good (So.-Shaker Heights, Ohio) grabbed a win at No. 8 over Juan Hurtado (11-6, 11-2, 11-2) while
Theodore Koenigsbauer (Jr.-Seattle, Wash.) completed the Bobcats' shutout spree with an 11-3, 11-6, 11-3 triumph over Alexander Navarro at No. 9.
Chris Kenny (Greenwich, Conn.) required one additional frame as the first year finished off Henry Pelletier in four games (11-4, 6-11, 11-8, 11-3) in the No. 3 position.
Jairaj Singh (Jaipur, Rajasthan, India ) did the same at No. 5, knocking off Noah Fish (6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10).
The Bobcats will take the court for the for the third time in as many days as they welcome No. 15 Franklin and Marshall to the Bates Squash Center Sunday morning for a 10:00 a.m. contest.
