LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 22 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team opened the home portion of its 2022-23 schedule with flair as the Bobcats upended No. 25 Navy, 6-3, in the Bates Squash Center.

Alec Spiro (Portland, Ore.) snared a hard-fought win in the No. 1 position for the Bobcats as the sophomore outlasted Navy's Millan Randell to earn the five-game triumph (11-4, 4-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9). 

First-years Ashton Monteiro (Greenwich, Conn.) and Chris Kenny (Greenwich, Conn.) each proved victorious with 3-1 wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Monteiro moved past Lucas Spiro (12-10, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9) while Kenny defeated Thomas Rankin with scores of 11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4.

Jairaj Singh (Jaipur, Rajasthan, India), playing in the No. 7 position, collected a 3-1 victory of his own as the senior captain moved past Benjamin Balser (11-4, 7-11, 11-1, 11-7). Garrett Wenberg (So.-Rye, N.Y.) authored an impressive 3-0 shutout of Shankar Jambunathan (11-4, 11-1, 11-0) in the No. 8 position.

The Bobcats (2-1) are back in action Saturday afternoon when they host #32 Connecticut College at 3:30 p.m.
