LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 22 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team rallied from down early but fell just short in a 5-4 loss to No. 17 St. Lawrence Sunday at the Bates College Squash Center.
The most impressive win for the Bobcats (3-9) against the Saints (11-3) came at the No. 2 position where first-year
Alec Spiro (Portland, Ore.) swept Saint Lawrence's Nathan Mead 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-8).Â
Meanwhile, a pair of Bobcats battled to the wire, earning five-game wins. First-year
Labeeb Ali (Plano, Texas) held off a comeback attempt from Vladimir Iglesias, winning 3-2 (11-7, 11-9, 4-11, 4-11, 11-6) at the No. 5 position. Junior
Sultan Hashmi (Belvedere, Calif.) rallied from down two games to one to prevail 3-2 (11-6, 13-15, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7) over Dean Brooker at the No. 8 position.Â

Jairaj Singh (Jaipur, India) also rallied to win his match, beating Oliver Bikhazi-Green in four games by a count of 3-1 (14-16, 11-3, 12-10, 11-8) at the No. 7 position.Â
The Saints swept four matches and won another in four games to secure the win over Bates.
The Bobcats are back in action this Friday through Sunday at the NESCAC Championships, hosted by Trinity and Wesleyan.
