LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's track and field team won four events at the Bates Invitational, hosted by the Bobcats Friday and Saturday at Merrill Gymnasium.Â
Taking on NCAA Division I schools UMaine and Bryant, as well as rivals Colby and Bowdoin, the Bobcats turned in a number of strong performances in the non-scoring meet.Â
Senior
John Mieszczanski (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the mile run in 4:23.24, edging a runner from Bryant by 0.44 seconds at the finish.Â
Sophomore
Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) and senior
Jackson Donahue (Princeton, N.J.) finished 1-2 in the 3000 meters, with Farrington winning in 8:36.99.
The distance medley relay team of first-year
Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.), senior
Garrett Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.), first-year
Cam Stathos (Wellesley, Mass.) and Farrington won the distance medley relay over a group from Bryant in 10:42.35.Â
Senior
John Everett (Winchester, Mass.) and junior
Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished 1-2 in the 35-pound weight throw, with Everett winning thanks to a personal best heave of 16.75 meters on his third attempt. Byrne placed third in the shot put with a personal record throw of 14.79 meters.
First-year
Truman Williams (Montclair, N.J.) moved from 10th to a tie for sixth on the Bates all-time performance list in the 60-meter dash with his finals time of 7.20 seconds.Â
A pair of Bobcats competed in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday. Senior captain
Liam Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) set a personal record in the event with 4468 points, winning the pole vault (4.05 meters) and the 1000-meter run (2:53.72), placing a close second to UMaine's Zachary Beaton. Evans currently ranks fourth on Bates' all-time performance list in the heptathlon.
Junior
Evan Koch (Brattleboro, Vt.) placed fourth in the heptathlon with 4117 points, finishing second to Evans in the 1000 meters.Â
The Bobcats will send athletes to Boston University and the University of Southern Maine next Saturday.Â
