LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year
Harris Ramlee took a game from his opponent but No. 6 nationally ranked Columbia proved to be too much for No. 21 Bates men's squash Wednesday morning, defeating the Bobcats 9-0 at the Bates College Squash Center.
Ramlee (Malaysia) won the second game of his match against Columbia's Harold Castiaux by a count of 11-9 at the No. 3 position. He also played Castiaux tight in the fourth game but ended up falling 3-1 (11-6, 9-11, 11-1, 11-9) in the longest match of the day for the Bates men.Â
JuniorÂ
Jairaj Singh (Jaipur, India) also gave his opponent a tough time, falling in three games that were decided by a combined six points:Â 11-9, 14-12, 11-9.
The Bobcats (2-7) have played a very challenging schedule, with Columbia (6-1) being the third Ivy League opponent they've faced this season.
It didn't count in the final results but sophomore
Matthew Lazor (West Hartford, Conn.) did defeat his opponent at the No. 10 position in an exhibition match. He upended Columbia's Hugh Camiener 3-2 (11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5) in 33 minutes.
Bates looks to bounce back Thursday when the Bobcats welcome No. 17 nationally ranked Amherst to town for a match that gets underway at 5pm. No spectators are allowed but fans can watch select matches on the
Northeast Sports Network.Â
