LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates women's basketball sophomore
Morgan Kennedy was named the Maine Co-Rookie of the Week Tuesday by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) helped the Bobcats to a 2-0 week and
a win over in-state rival and the #4 team in the nation at the time, Bowdoin College. Kennedy averaged 16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal while shooting 55 percent from the floor and 53% from the three-point line. The sophomore guard made 8 threes in two games including 6 in
Saturday's win over Clark.
She is Co-Rookie of the Week with UNE sophomore guard Jordyn Franzen. Sophomores are eligible for Rookie of the Week honors due to the COVID-19 pandemic wiping out the vast majority of games last season.
Bates (6-1) is off to its best start in 11 years and beat Bowdoin for the first time since 2013. Kennedy is the first Bates MWBCA Rookie of the Week since
Meghan Graff (South Portland, Maine) earned the honor in February of 2019.
The Bobcats, who are receiving votes in this week's d3hoops.com poll, return to action Monday when they visit Husson at 8pm.
