PHILADELPHIA -- The No. 23 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team took on the top-ranked University of Pennsylvania Quakers Sunday, falling 9-0 to their Ivy League opponent.Â
A pair of Bobcats took their respective opponents to four games. Senior captain
Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway) gave Penn's top player Aly Abou El Einen all they could handle at the No. 1 position, taking him to 12-10 oin the first game and winning the third game 11-7. Phillips eventually fell 3-1 (12-10, 11-3, 7-11, 11-6) at the top of the ladder.
At the No. 8 position, sophomore
Matthew Lazor (West Hartford, Conn.) bounced back from a tough game one to win 11-7 in game two in his match against Penn's Brian Cowhey. Cowhey eventually won 3-1 (11-2, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5) .
The Quakers (8-0) remain undefeated on the year. Bates (0-3) hopes its challenging start to the season pays off when the Bobcats return to action on Thursday, December 2, hosting Bowdoin at 6:30pm.
