BOSTON -- The nationally-ranked No. 20 Bates men's squash team defeated No. 21 Colby 8-1 in the Summers Cup, the C Division of the College Squash Association Team National Championships, hosted by Harvard.
The Bobcats are the No. 4 seed in the C Division. After the quarterfinal win tonight, Bates is now 11-7 this season. The Mules, the No. 5 seed, are now 10-9 overall.
Senior Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) defeated Dylan Tymkiw 3-0 at the top spot (11-6, 12-10, 11-9). Sophomore Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway) topped Alex Spafford 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6 at No. 2. At No. 3, senior Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) triumphed 13-11, 13-11, 11-9 over Chase Holding, and junior Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) earned a 11-5, 11-8, 11-9 victory over Alexander Kurtin at No. 4. First-year Jonathan Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) rallied to edge Jack Vanderhorst 8-11, 13-15, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 at No. 5. At No. 6, senior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) defeated Jason Brodo 3-11, 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 17-15. First-year Sultan Hashmi (Belvedere, Calif.) recorded a win over Ryan Santoro 14-12, 11-5, 12-10 at No. 8, and junior Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda) posted an 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 victory over Duda Voldman at No. 9.
The Bobcats will take on top-seeded and No. 17 in the nation Williams College in the semifinals tomorrow, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m.
