BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The No. 19 nationally-ranked Bates College men's squash team finished fourth in the NESCAC Championships hosted by Bowdoin, falling in the third place match to No. 21 Middlebury today 7-2.
The Bobcats, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, are now 10-7 overall. The fifth-seeded Panthers are now 7-10 this season.
Senior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior David Quintero (Santa Barbara, Calif.) earned wins for Bates at Nos. 6 and 9, respectively. Rothenberg topped PK Keller 15-13, 7-11, 12-10, 12-10. Quintero defeated Alex Stimpson 11-2, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8. Sophomore Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway), junior Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt), and first-year Sultan Hashmi (Belvedere, Calif.) each battled their Panther opponents to five games, but fell 3-2 at Nos. 2,4 and 8, respectively.
Bates will be back in action Feb. 28-Mar. 1, when the Bobcats compete in the CSA Team Nationals at Harvard.
