LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 21 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team defeated No. 20 Colby 5-4 for the Bobcats' sixth straight victory Wednesday night at the Bates Squash Center.
The visiting Mules (4-3) claimed points at the first, fifth, eighth and ninth positions in the lineup, but not enough to defeat the surging Bobcats.
Sophomore Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway) won in straight games at the No. 2 position over Dylan Tymkiw, while senior Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) did the same at the No. 4 spot. Senior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) also won by a 3-0 score at No. 7, including a 17-15 score in the second game against Jason Brodo.
Junior Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) dropped only one game at the No. 3 spot against Alex Spafford, while first-year Jonathan Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) defeated Jack Vanderhorst 3-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-13, 11-3 to win one of Bates' most crucial points.
The Bobcats (8-4) will entertain No. 19 Middlebury (2-6) Thursday at 6pm.
