BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The No. 25 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team won its fifth straight match with a 5-4 victory over No. 31 Chatham Sunday afternoon at Heights Casino Annex.
The Bobcats (7-4) got clutch contributions from the bottom of the lineup, starting with first-year Jonathan Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) defeating Christopher Tejada 3-1 (11-8, 5-11, 11-3, 11-5) at the No. 6 position. And Bates dominated at the No. 7-9 positions, sweeping all three matches. Senior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) defeated Zane Porterfield at the No. 7 position 3-0 (11-5, 11-1, 11-2) and sophomore Peter Koenigsbauer (Seattle, Wash.) rolled to a 3-0 (11-2, 11-1, 11-2) win at the No. 8 position over Drew Brannon.
First-year Sultan Hashmi (Belvedere, Calif.) continued his remarkable start to his collegiate career with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-3) win over Jeffrey Duclos at the No. 9 position. Hashmi sports a personal record of 10-1 on the season.Â
Bates had less success against the Cougars (11-5) at the top of the lineup but senior Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) got a crucial victory at the No. 4 position, winning 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-6) over Alaaeldin Abdelkhalik.
The Bates men's squash team returns to action this Wednesday when the Bobcats host the Colby College Mules at 6pm.Â
