LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 25 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team swept four matches on its way to a 7-2 win over No. 26 Dickinson Wednesday night at the Bates College Squash Center.Â
The Bobcats (5-4) won their third consecutive match and handed the Red Devils (3-7) their second straight loss.
Bates showed off its depth with sweeps at the No. 7 through 9 positions. Senior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) rolled to a 3-0 (11-5, 11-2, 11-4) win over Dickinson's Michael Tricolli at the No. 7 position. And sophomore Peter Koenigsbauer (Seattle, Wash.) turned in a 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-5) victory at the No. 8 position over Benjamin Gemma. Meanwhile, first-year Sultan Hashmi (Belvedere, Calif.) improved his personal record to 8-1 on the season with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-6) win over Patrick Noonan at the No. 9 position.
Near the top of the lineup, sophomore Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway) earned a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-3) victory at the No. 2 position over Alexander Wattles. And junior Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) won a hard-fought match by count of 3-1 (11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 17-15) over Tanay Murdia at the No. 3 position.
Senior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dominated his first game and held on to win 3-1 (11-4, 13-11, 10-12, 11-8) at the No. 5 position over Graham Henderson. And first-year Jonathan Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) bounced back from a loss in game one to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-3) over Hussien Eldesouky at the No. 6 position.
The Bobcats head to Brooklyn, N.Y. this weekend to take on Amherst this Saturday at the Heights Casino Annex. The match is scheduled for 3pm.Â
