No. 20 men's squash blanks No. 29 Connecticut College 9-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The No. 20 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team swept seven matches on its way to a 9-0 win against No. 29 Connecticut College on the campus of Yale University Friday night.

Bates (5-5) took care of business against the Camels (3-6) up and down the lineup, with junior Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) earning a sweep at the No. 1 position by a count of 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-4) over MD Jawad. 

A pair of captains and a first-year got the night started on the right foot. First-year Peter Koenigsbauer (Seattle, Wash.) defeated Luigi Pasquariello 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-4) at the No. 9 position and senior captains Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) and McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) swept their matches as well, with Cannon winning 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-9) over Michael Rodriguez at the No. 3 position and Abbott defeating Samuel Piller 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-1) at the No. 6 position. 

Sophomore Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) moved up to the No. 2 position on Friday and earned a hard-fought 3-1 (11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 11-4) win over Billy Fleurima. Meanwhile, junior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rallied from down two games to one to win 3-2 (4-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4) over Scott Brown at the No. 5 position. 

First-year Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway) continued his strong start to the season with a 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-4) at the No. 4 position over James Andrew to improve his personal record to 6-4. 

The Bobcats showed off their depth at the No. 7 and 8 positions with a pair of sweeps. Junior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) won 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-3) at the No. 7 position over Thomas Whittemore and sophomore Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda) took down Christopher Mach 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-4) at the No. 8 position. 

Bates is back in action this Wednesday at MIT with the match getting underway at 6pm.
