SIMSBURY, Conn. -- The Bates men's squash team fell to Middlebury 8-1 in the third-place match of Summers Cup (C Division) play Sunday at CSA Men's Team Nationals, earning the Bobcats a final national ranking at No. 20 and the Panthers No. 19.
The Panthers (9-12) defeated the Bobcats (12-6) for the second time in as many meetings this season but by a wider margin than their 5-4 win in January.
Earning Bates' point was first-year Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda), who dropped the first game to Samuel Giddins before reeling off three straight to win 6-11, 13-11, 12-10, 11-6 at the No. 9 position.
Only one match was decided in three games between the rivals. Three went to the full five games, with all of them going in Middlebury's favor: Bates first-year Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt), senior captain Anirudh Nambiar (Pune, India), and sophomore Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all took their opponents to the full five games.
Bates will participate in CSA Individual Nationals to finish the 2017-18 season, taking place March 2-4 in Washington, D.C.
