No. 20 men's squash rallies, beats No. 24 Colby 5-4

LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior captain Anirudh Nambiar won a key five-game match and the No. 20 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win 5-4 over No. 24 Colby Wednesday night at the Bates College Squash Center.

The win marks the 17th consecutive year that Bates men's squash has defeated both Colby and Bowdoin in the regular season. The Bobcats (7-2) have not lost to the Mules (6-6) since 2000.

Nambiar (Pune, India) beat the Mules' Alexander Kurtin by a score of 3-2 (9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7) at the No. 4 position. At the time of his match, the Bobcats trailed 4-2. Nambiar's win cut the deficit to 4-3 and set up sophomores Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) and Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) with a chance to clinch the come-from-behind victory.

Both players stepped up and won with ease, securing the Bobcats' second 5-4 win of the season. McComish took down Jason Brodo 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-7) at the No. 7 position and Yousry won 3-0 (13-11, 11-8, 11-6) at the No. 1 position over the Mules' William McBrian.

First-year Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) was the first man up on the glass court Wednesday and he improved his record to 7-1 on the season with a 3-0 (11-2, 11-9, 11-9) win over Elliot Gross at the No. 3 position. Meanwhile junior Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) won 3-0 (11-5, 13-11, 11-9) at the No. 5 position over William Pepi.

The Bobcats now gear up for a big weekend. They will play three matches over the course of two days at home, starting with No. 27 Tufts Friday at 6:00 p.m.
