No. 18 men's squash scores 8-1 win over No. 30 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --  The No. 18 nationally raked Bates men's squash team swept six matches on its way to an 8-1 road victory over No. 31 Wesleyan Wednesday night.

First-year Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) moved up to the No. 3 position for Bates (6-2) and responded by sweeping Wesleyan's William Beinstock 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-6), improving Attia's personal record to 6-1 on the year.

The Bobcats also swept matches from the No. 5 position down against the Cardinals (3-6), starting with senior captain Anirudh Nambiar (Pune, India) winning 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 12-10) over Alex Dreyfus. At the No. 6 position, junior Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) had no problem with the Cardinals' Kevin Le in a 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-6) victory.

Sophomore Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) moved up to the No. 7 position and won 3-0 (11-9, 11-2, 11-5) over William Coburn. After not seeing any action last year as a first-year, McComish is now 7-1 on the season as a sophomore, with an undefeated record against NESCAC opponents.

First-years Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda) and Robby Dewey (New Canaan, Conn.) took care of business at the No. 8 and 9 positions respectively, with Muldoon winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-2) over Premchai Bunsermvicha and Dewey prevailing 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-0) over Scott Ji.

At the top of the ladder, the Bobcats had to work a little harder for their wins but sophomore Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) won 3-1 (11-4, 9-11, 11-1, 11-7) at the No. 2 position and junior captain McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) also won, rallying from a game down to beat Josh Lane 3-1 ( 7-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8) at the No. 4 position.

Bates is back in action on Wednesday, January 24 when the Bobcats host Colby at 6:00 p.m.
