Kelsey Chenoweth placed 20th in the women's slalom and sophomore
Michael Cooper placed 29th in the men's slalom on Friday, the final day of alpine competition at the NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships.
Chenoweth (Stowe, Vt.), making her second NCAA Championship appearance, matched her career-best NCAA finish from Wednesday's giant slalom competition. Her combined time of 2:01.83 was 20th fastest out of 34 competitors, 0.36 seconds behind New Mexico's Sydney Staples, the 19th-place finisher, and 0.56 seconds ahead of Colorado's Isabella Fidjeland.
Cooper (Alta, Calif.), who placed 26th in Wednesday's men's GS, came in 29th out of 34 in the men's slalom, with a two-run combined time of 2:05.30, giving him two top-30 performances in his first career NCAA Championship appearance. Cooper's first run of 59.01 seconds was the 28th fastest in the field.Â
The three student-athletes representing Bates' Nordic and alpine ski teams combined for 29 championship points, good for 17th place out of 21 participating teams -- a point ahead of Michigan Tech and 20 points behind 16th-place Plymouth State.
