Michael Cooper starred in the giant slalom on Friday during the first day of the UVM Carnival.

The women finished eighth out of 12 teams in the giant slalom thanks to scoring contributions from first-years Kathleen Smith (Piedmont, Calif.) and Annabel Mahon (Toorak, Australia).
Despite starting with a bib number (your expected finish) of 60, Smith came in 29th place with a two-run combined time of 2:32.11, earning 15 carnival points and two NCAA points. Mahon finished in 36th place, good for 10 carnival points.
Cooper (Alta, Calif.) was the only Bates men's skier to finish both runs, but he did it in style, finishing in 19th place out of 80 skiers despite starting with a bib number of 33. Cooper's two-run combined time of 2:19.75 earned the Bobcats 21 carnival points and earned him 12 NCAA points.
Combined with the Nordic skiing teams, the Bobcats sit in 9th place out of 16 schools following day one of competition at the UVM Carnival.
