LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Senior
Kelsey Chenoweth took a career-best fifth place out of 59 competitors in the giant slalom, leading the Bates women's alpine ski team to fourth place out of 13 teams on the first day of the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface Mountain.
The Bates women finished with 82 carnival points in the GS, placing fourth between the University of New Hampshire (100) and St. Michael's (68).
Chenoweth (Stowe, Vt.), a two-time NCAA Championship competitor for the Bobcats, recorded the fourth-fastest first run in the field of 59 women, with her time of 1:06.34. Her second run was the ninth-fastest in the field at 1:07.41, for a combined time of 2:13.75. Her previous career-best EISA carnival finish was ninth place.
Bates junior
Sierra Ryder (Orinda, Calif.) placed 20th in 2:16.81, and junior
Hannah Johnson (Incline Village, Nev.) rounded out the women's squad's scoring in 23rd place at 2:17.49. First-years
Kathleen Smith (Piedmont, Calif.) and
Emma Finfer (Highland Park, Ill.) made their carnival debuts in 32nd and 36th places, respectively.
Sophomore
Michael Cooper (Alta, Calif.) was the lone Bates male to finish both runs, placing 26th out of 57 competitors with a combined time of 2:10.68.
