WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bates women's track and field team took third place out of 60 scoring teams Thursday at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships at Westfield State, on the strength of seven All-ECAC performances on the day and 10 in all.
Bates scored 47 points for third place out of 60 teams that scored for top-eight performances. Rowan was first with 61, followed by Ithaca with 57.5; Bates, Rochester (36) and Misericordia (32) rounded out the top five.
First-year Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.) lowered her own team record in the 800-meter run by 0.54 seconds, finishing third out of 28 women in 2:11.88. She now ranks 25th in Division III in the event.
Sophomore Srishti Sunil (Bangalore, India) placed second in the long jump with a top effort of 18-4.25, 0.75 shy of her season best and school record mark.
Junior Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) ran a personal-best time of 4:32.92 in the 1,500 meters, placing fourth out of 26. Wilson's time moved her into 24th place on the Division III performance list.
Should two athletes ranked ahead of Wilson in the 1,500 opt out of the race for next week's NCAA Championships, in order to concentrate on another event, Wilson could receive an invitation to the national meet at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Eickhoff is in a similar position at No. 25 in the 800, as is Sunil at No. 26 in the long jump. Junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) and sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) are locks to compete in the 100 hurdles and triple jump, respectively.
Senior Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine) finished fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash, leading four runners who crossed the finish line in 12.25 seconds. The time is the second best of Dickinson's career and was 0.09 faster than Friday's trial. Dickinson is currently ranked 23rd in the country in the event and needs someone to drop out of the 100 in NCAAs in order to get an invitation.
Hill finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 1:02.77, improving upon her NESCAC first-place time by 0.05 seconds. She now ranks 24th in the country in the event, in addition to her No. 7 ranking in the 100 hurdles.
Bates' 4x100 relay team of Sunil, Hill, Dickinson and Markonic lowered their school-record time by 0.14 to 47.99 seconds, placing sixth in the event.
Bates' 4x800 relay team -- sophomore Julia Nemy (San Francisco, Calif.), first-year Katie Barker (Burlington, Vt.), first-year Sarah Rothmann (Andover, Mass.) and senior Isabelle Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) -- placed third in 9:19.58, becoming the third-fastest 4x800 unit in team history.
The meet is likely to be the final ECAC Championship for the Bobcats, as NESCAC teams will no longer compete in ECAC meets next year.
