CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates women's track and field team won five events in a strong performance against three excellent opponents Saturday in a quad meet at MIT that included Tufts and RPI.

Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) broke the program outdoor triple jump record, in one of seven performances by Bates athletes that made waves on the team's all-time top 10 performance lists. Ceesay won the event with her longest effort of 38-4.75, six inches beyond her previous outdoor best. The mark exceeded the former team record of 38-0 set by Jen Marino in 2009.

Bates also won the 4x100 relay race in 49.00 seconds, with a team featuring Ceesay, junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine), junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) and senior Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine), making them the third-fastest 4x100 unit in program history.

Other standout performances by the Bobcats included:

  • First-year Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.) won the 800 meters in 2:16.95, becoming the eighth-fastest 800 runner in team history.
  • Dickinson won the 100 meters in 12.88 seconds. She also finished third in the 200 (26.70).
  • Junior Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) placed second in the 5,000 meters in 17:48.88, 1.03 seconds behind MIT's Mary Eccles, to move into ninth place on Bates' all-time list.
  • Junior Elyse Rubchinuk (Newport, N.H.) placed second in the javelin throw at 119-11.
  • Hill jumped into fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second in 1:04.44.
  • Hill placed second in the 100 hurdles in 15.06; unfortunately she originally won the race but it was run again due to a problem with the timing system.
  • Markonic placed second in the 400 meters (1:01.01).
  • Sophomore Srishti Sunil (Bangalore, India) placed second in the long jump (17-6.25).
  • Sophomore Lindsey Beauregard (Hollis, N.H.) vaulted into the team's top 10 list in the long jump at seventh place, finishing fifth at 16-8.5.
  • First-year Katie Hughes (Pittsfield, Maine) moved from 10th place into eighth on Bates' all-time performance list in the shot put, at 35-9.5.
  • Bates also won the 4x400 relay in 4:13.48, with Eickhoff, Markonic, senior Elena Schroeder (Clinton, Conn.) and first-year Wendy Memishian (Medfield, Mass.).

Bates placed fourth in the team scoring, but only two points out of second place. MIT scored 206.5 points, followed by RPI (149), Tufts (147.5) and Bates (147).

The Bobcats will compete next at the UNH Wildcat Invitational next Saturday in Durham, N.H.
