ORONO, Maine -- The Bates women's track and field team opened the outdoor season Saturday at the University of Maine, in a tri-meet also the University of New Hampshire, winning two events in rainy conditions.
Maine won the team scoring with 149.5 points, followed by New Hampshire (130) and Bates (85.5).
Top-three and other notable performances by the Bobcats included:
- Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) won the triple jump, which took place indoor due to the weather. Ceesay soared 38 feet and 8.25 inches, a mark which would surpass the team indoor triple jump record of 38-6.75 she already owns by 1.5 inches. Ceesay's nearest competition, Maine's Lucia Guarnieri, went 36-0.75.
- Junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.38 seconds, 0.03 ahead of Maine's Grace MacLean.
- Hill also placed third in the 200-meter dash, in 26.82 seconds.
- Junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) placed third in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 1:00.88.
- Senior Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine) placed third in the 100-meter dash, in 12.99 seconds.
- Junior Sadie James (Avon, Maine) placed third in the 5,000-meter run, in 18:33.27.
- First-year Katie Hughes (Pittsfield, Maine) moved into 10th place on Bates' all-time performance list in the shot put, finishing fourth at 35-5.
The Bobcats travel to MIT next Saturday, for a four-team meet with Tufts and RPI.
