HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates softball team fell 9-1 to Trinity in six innings in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Game two was suspended until April 10 with the Bobcats down 13-3 in the top of the fifth when hail started falling from the sky.

Game One: Trinity 9, Bates 1 (6 innings)

The Bantams (10-5, 1-0, NESCAC) scored five runs in the first inning to get off to a fast start in their 9-1 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against the Bobcats.

With one away, Michelle Treglia drew a walk. Erica Quinones drew a walk as well and a pair of wild pitches led to the first Trinity run. A Bates error, a passed ball and a RBI grounder tallied the next three runs respectively. Cassia Armstrong delivered an RBI double to cap the five-run first inning.

In the second inning, Quinones doubled with one out. Courtney Erickson doubled as well but Quinones only advanced to third on the play. Nicole Towner singled home both runners to extend the Trinity lead to 7-0.

Bates got on the board in the fifth against Trinity pitcher Cassia Armstrong (5-2). Sophomore Emma Schiller (Natick, Mass.) doubled to start the frame. She stole third and scored on a Trinity error to cut the deficit to 7-1.

Quinones hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to end the game in walk-off fashion due to the eight-run rule.

Tori Fitzgerald '18 (Holliston, Mass.) went 2-2 with two doubles and a walk for Bates in the contest.

Each team recorded six hits but Trinity drew eight walks at the plate.

Game Two: Trinity 13, Bates 3 (SUSPENDED until 4/10 in the top of the 5th)

Bates scored three runs in the first in game two but Trinity took the lead with a six-run second inning. Bates trails 13-3 in the top of the fifth and the game will resume on April 10th before the Bobcats and Bantams make up Sunday's postponed game.

First-year Andrea Russo (Cheshire, Conn.) singled to begin the game. She stole second and scored on another Schiller double. One out later junior Maddie Inlow (Falmouth, Maine) drew a walk. First-year Madison Fox (Denver, Colo.) singled home Russo to put Bates up 2-0. A passed ball scored Inlow to extend the lead to 3-0.

Trinity got a run back in the bottom of the first. With one out Michelle Treglia singled. Quinones drew a walk and with two outs Nicole Towner singled in Treglia.

The Bantams took a big lead in the second inning. A walk, a hit by pitch, and another walk loaded the bases with one out. Quinones drove in a run with a walk and Erickson singled home two runs. Trinity added three more runs in the frame to take a 7-3 lead.

Elizabeth McQuaid doubled in a run in the fourth and Quinones continued her big doubleheader with a bases clearing double to extend the lead to 13-3.
